New York Mets Fire Manager Mickey Callaway

After two seasons and a career 163-161 record the New York Mets are firing manager Mickey Callaway. The former Cleveland Indians pitching coach was hired in October 2017.

His firing might be a surprise to some as the team almost made the playoffs this season. They struggled in the first half of the 2019 season but surged to an 86-76 record. The Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen says the move is in "the team's best interest."

"We want to thank Mickey for his consistent work ethic and dedication over the last two seasons and I'm certain these characteristics will serve him well in his next opportunity," said Van Wagenen.

Now that Callaway is out, the Mets are the seventh MLB team who will start the 2020 season with a new manager. Sometimes change is a good thing so it'll be interesting to see how next season goes.
