Soccer | 10/16/19

Whether you call it soccer or football, Lionel Messi is a legend in the sport. So legendary that he was awarded the European Golden Shoe on October 16th.

The award comes after he scored 36 total goals for Barcelona last season. It's the athlete's third consecutive Golden Shoe and his sixth overall.

"I want to thank my family, the board and my teammates. Thanks especially to Luis (Suarez) and Jordi (Alba), who are two of the big reasons I have been able to win this sixth Golden Shoe," said Messi. "But even though I am here with the trophy, this is recognition for the whole dressing room. Thank you!"

Rival player Cristiano Ronaldo has won the award four times, once with Manchester United and three times with Real Madrid. Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe finished second behind Messi with 33 league goals last season.
