After only two seasons with the team, Gabe Kapler has been fired as manager of the Phillies. The team failed to reach the playoffs this under Kapler and barely managed to improve their record.

"Several years ago, I promised our loyal fans that I would do everything in my power to bring a world championship team to our city," said the owner of the Phillies John Middleton. "I will never waiver from that commitment ... I have decided that some changes are necessary to achieve our ultimate objective."

The Phillies finished with an 81-81 record in 2019. It's only a one-game improvement on their 2018 record of 80-82, despite adding Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, and Jean Segura to the team.

"We came into 2019 with very high hopes. We fell short of those, and that responsibility lies with me," said Kapler in a statement. "The next Phillies manager will inherit a team of talented, dedicated and committed players."

Rumored to be potential replacements for Kapler are Buck Showalter, Joe Maddon, and Joe Girardi, according to ESPN.
